So it was confirmed yesterday that AT&T will put a cap on both DSL and AT&T U-Verse customers. The cap is reported to be 150 GB for DSL customers and 250 GB for U-Verse. How is this going to affect the average home user? AT&T reports that it will affect less than 2 % of total customers.
Don't go into a panic just yet, here is some of the good news. AT&T has offered customers a grace period of sorts. You must go over the cap 3 months before your overages begin to be charged. And second, Both Time Warner cable and Comcast have tried to implement a tiered data plan at some point in the past 5 years and have been shut down by either the FCC or public backlash.
My concern is this, every day we continue to rely more heavily on the internet. This morning I have read my paper, checked the weather, watched the news and listened to the radio; all of those things were done on the internet. I also work from home frequently, check my email, perform remote support, use a VOIP phone and various other things while listening to Pandora or Streaming a Netflix movie. I would not be surprised if i am among those 2%. With the heavy reliance on the internet how soon before the majority catches up with the minority?
